Headquartered in New Jersey, USA, MSD has won many praises as a global top 500 enterprise, including being awarded the title of "Top Ten Most Respected Companies in America" by Fortune magazine for 16 times. In 1994, Hangzhou MSD Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Merck and Hangzhou Huadong Pharmaceutical (Group) Company, was established. In 2010, the foundation stone was laid for the new factory located in Xiasha Economic Development Zone, Hangzhou. The first phase of MSD new production base project invested about 700 million yuan, covering an area of 75,000 square meters, including administration building, packaging workshop, clinical production workshop, power center, hazardous chemicals warehouse, pump room, etc. It has 16 production lines and is one of the largest packaging manufacturing factories of multinational pharmaceutical companies in Asia-Pacific. The new Hangzhou plant was put into trial production in August 2012, and officially put into operation in April 2013.
